Shenzhen, 15th June 2018 – A few days ago our production partner made me aware, that in order to use our special eco-material, we have to modify the surface of the mold to make injection traces less visible. I compared some options, but actually the only option really helping against those traces, will be, to make the surface pretty rough. Its not easy to imagine, how the endresult might look like. But I hope it will be the best compromise. I did some testing on how easy it is to keep the rough surface clean, which is one of our main concernes. At least for normal plastics, which I could test, it seems to work well.
Today the mold was mounted back to the injection-machine, after doing some surface treatment. They need to do some more adjustments and trials, as after receiving a lot of feedback, we are going to color the material black. And still they are not hundred percent used to this artificial wood. But the really nice thing about it is the smell. Even though there were two more conventional injection-machines in use, still the whole mold department smells a bit like a carpentry rather than poisonous plastic fumes.
